The
2024 season would be the second year in the Diamondbacks history where they played a balanced schedule meaning they would play the other 29 teams during the season The Diamondbacks made significant progress finishing second in the NL West. Arizona made the playoffs beating the Milwaukee Brewers in the Wild Card round. They then swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Division series and beating the Philadelphia Phillies in the League Championship series.
For the second time in franchise history, the Diamondbacks reached the World Series facing the Texas Rangers. Unfortunately they lost to the Rangers in five games. The Diamondbacks entered the 2024 season as the defending National League champions. For the 2024 season the team was again be managed by Torey Lovullo.
For the seventeenth season in their history, the Diamondbacks began the season at Chase Field. For the seventh time (first time since 2018) the Diamondbacks faced the Colorado Rockies to begin the season, this year they are playing at Chase Field.
Right-handed pitcher Zac Gallen made his second Opening Day start with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Opening Day line-up featured four changes from the previous season and three players making their Opening Day debut for Arizona.
Ketel Marte made his seventh Opening Day start for the Diamondbacks playing second base. Christian Walker would make his seventh start as a Diamondback at first base. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Gabriel Moreno both made their second consecutive Opening Day at left field and catcher respectively. Corbin Carroll also made his second Opening Day start but this year in right field versus center field last season.
The new Opening Day starters were Alek Thomas who started in center field for the first time for the Diamondbacks. Eugenio Suárez would get the start at third base, Gerardo Perdomo was the starter at shortstop and Blaze Alexander made his first Opening Day start for the Diamondbacks as the designated hitter.
For the 15th time in franchise history the Diamondbacks won their season opener. The final score Diamondbacks 16 - Rockies 1 in front of 49,011 fans.
